Activista – Let’s act together

Activista is ActionAid’s network of student and youth activist groups in 14 countries, campaigning for a HungerFREE world. We want to help create a HungerFREE world through innovative, powerful and global campaigning.

Activista groups are made up of core youth activists working with artists, film-makers, musicians and with partner student campaigning organisations to create powerful and creative campaigns.

Set up in 2007, we’re presently active in Brazil, The Gambia, Italy, Uganda, France, Nepal, Denmark, Greece, USA, South Africa, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Sweden and the UK, hoping to create more groups and join-up with more partners in the future.

Activista is a global youth movement. We create large events, music festivals, global campaigns and capacity build youth to be spokespeople for a HungerFREE world. By acting together we can end poverty.

Presently, Activista takes part in ActionAid’s global campaign for a HungerFREE world.

HungerFREE campaign

More than one billion people live in persistent hunger. And the numbers are increasing.  Yet there’s plenty of food to go around – twice as much as we need to feed everyone on the planet.

In 2000 political leaders of all countries committed themselves to halving the number of hungry and undernourished people in the world by the year 2015. Yet since that pledge was made, little progress has been made.

Activista does not accept that hunger is inevitable – it is a man-made and unnecessary injustice. 

A world without hunger is possible. It requires investment in sustainable agriculture, land rights especially for women, an end to land grabbing and a fair global climate deal. We campaign to make these demands reality.

Capacity building youth networks
Activista arranges training courses for Activistas globally and regionally – on campaigning, leadership and media use. Training is developed with MS ActionAid Denmark and takes place on our training centres – Global Platforms – in Kenya, El Salvador, India, Tanzania and Denmark.
