Honduras: Farmers take over agricultural institute

Following the coup d’état in Honduras, eight farmers’ organizations are trying to protect the conquests made by farmers over the past years.

Honduran farmers’ organization have obtained important legal results over the past couple of years. The documentation on the creation of small farmers’ businesses, deeds and other relevant paperwork is all kept at the National Agrarian Institute.

Following the coup d’état, eight organizations are worried that the de facto government will make these papers ‘disappear’, and have thus taken over the Agrarian Institute. Interview with Santos Cornelio Chirinos from the MS partner organization COCOCH.
