Newsletter for MS-Tanzania

For MS partners and development workers in Tanzania

June 2005

Editor: Financial Adviser Mikkel Hauschildt
Editor-in-chief: Director Finn Petersen

New challenges

For the next couple of months, until a new Information Worker is up and running at the Country Office, I will try to lift the task of being an interim Editor of this Newsletter for MS-Tanzania, concurrent with my task as Financial Adviser. I would like to invite all of you, to please forward me news and other information you would like see in this Newsletter – karibu sana J

News from the director

The new MS administrator Birgitte Mygind has arrived and is right now following an introduction programme in the office. As part of the introduction, Pia and Birgitte will visit a few of the partner organisations in the coming weeks.

The MS-Tanzania Director position is advertised on MS home page www.ms.dk so if any of you ‘out there’ is interested to apply for this position, the deadline is 8th June 2005. Realising that it is going to be difficult to get a replacement for me before I’m leaving, it has been decided to place an interim Director for a period. Jan Kjaer from MS Denmark will be that interim Director commencing 18th July and he will be in this position until the new Director is in place.

The Code of Conduct taskforce has incorporated all the recommendations received at the Annual meeting. The version you received last month would be your last chance to commend on it before it will finally approved at the PAB meeting in July. So, please notice that the deadline for commenting on the Code of Conduct for Good Governance is 18th June 2005.

In the end of June/beginning of July a workshop will be conducted for all partners on environmental management. The workshop is in the last planning stage of the organisers (TYC, Envirocare and Hans-Jakob) and you will be informed officially in the near future. At the same workshop, administrator Pia Norgaard and Director Finn Petersen will have their official farewell reception, since all the partners will represented at this Workshop. Their will as well be an official letter of invitation for this part of the event.

Further to the articles I distributed recently describing the situation that the MS-Kenya programme is in and not at least the Civil Society in Kenya as well. The Danish government took yesterday a strong stand, on the threats on MS-Kenya programme and the Civil Society in general, represented by the Minister for development Ulla Tornaes. The Kenyan Ambassador will be summoned to the minister for further explanation of the background for the accusation of the MS programme. Read more detailed in the two articles attached from Danish newspapers (translated into English).

DW’s leaving MS-Tanzania

Karen Krüger Rasmussen, TRC-Coalition, and before TRC Mugumu, left for Denmark 25th May to be reunited with her long awaiting husband Kjeld Silkjaer – good luck in Denmark. From down here in Tanzania, we will look forward to see the fruits of Karen’s hard work, the book “HOW TO PREPARE YOUR OWN TEACHING/LEARNING MATERIALS – AND TO USE EDUCATIONAL GAMES”, hopefully within the next year.

Bodil Moeller Joergensen Aston contract ends on the 15th July and her last day of work will be on the 30th June. Then Bodil and Clive will visit there relatives in both England and Denmark, before Bodil will take up residence in Moshi as spouse. Bodil has many plans for many different projects, and we all wish her the best of luck and hope she still finds time to come visit us.
