United Nations Volunteer (UNV)

ActionAid Denmark posts approximately 10 Danish volunteers to UN organisations working with governance and democracy. These volunteers constitute a substantial part of Denmark's contribution to the multilateral co-operation with the UN.

Every year, ActionAid Denmark sends out approximately 10 Danish UNVs to UN organisations that work with democracy in a broad sense. ActionAid Denmark sends out UNVs on behalf of the Danish Foreign Ministry and UNVs constitute a large part of Denmark’s contribution to the multilateral co-operation with the UN.

ActionAid Denmark have send out UNVs since the concept was launched in the beginning of the 1970s and has gradually focused the posts to better match themes, which ActionAid Denmark work with in the South. This has resulted in more specialised UNVs, at the same time as requirements of minimum two years work experience are often demanded.

Our experience shows that the majority of our UNVs chose to extend their contracts. This is a sign of great satisfaction among both UNVs and the receiving UN organisations. Moreover, our experience indicates that UNVs are able to influence their work and focus areas to a great extent.

ActionAid Denmark only sends out Danish citizens or people with permanent residents in Denmark. However, as a non Dane you can still register for future assignments at the central UNV roster here:  http://one.unv.org. For further information on the UNV program please visit www.unv.org
